MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAIRMAN
Dear fellow members,
Following the clearest of advice from the UK Chief Rabbi in London, and having considered the situation ourselves, it is with regret and sadness that we have to suspend all weekday and Shabbos services at Giffnock Shul with immediate effect until the Coronavirus situation has been resolved. The utmost priority is the health of our members.
However, Giffnock Shul itself and our Rabbi are, and remain, available for pastoral support, and we want to assure you that we are here for you. If you yourself or if you are aware of anyone else, whether a family member, neighbour or friend are in need of any assistance, please contact the Shul Office, Rabbi Rubin, or Jewish Care Scotland. We are working with the other main organisations to ensure best service is maintained. For your convenience, here are some helpful phone numbers:
Giffnock Shul office: 0141-577-8250
Rabbi Rubin: 0141-577-8251
Jewish Care: 0141-620-1800
Glasgow Jewish Rep Council: 0141-577-8200
Mark’s Deli, Gary’s Kosher Kitchen, and Lubavitch are all offering to deliver meals and food to the community. Their phone numbers are as follows:
Mark’s Deli 0141-638 8947;
Garys Kosher Kitchen (at Jewish care 0141-620-1800) or 07590-292418;
We are looking at ways of having virtual services, and will let you know as soon as we have anything to report on this. Rabbi Rubin is hoping to record a message every so often online, and we will give you more details when this happens.
Your Executive and Council are monitoring the virus situation, and will provide updates.
Meantime, may we all keep well and safe.
MESSAGE FROM OUR RABBI
I am sure that by now you would have received one or two funny YouTube clips about the Covid-19 virus but that doesn’t take away the worry and concern about the situation. Each day more and more directives are coming from the government which adds to the worry and fear.
Added to this is the need for many to go in to quarantine which in itself has its own challenges.
Can I assure you that everything is being done to make sure that it is only quarantine and not isolation. In the next few days the shul will send out more information about the assistance available in the community for those who are unable to go out or those just in need to talk to someone. The Representative Council are working closely with Jewish Care to ensure that no one gets isolated. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you or if you know someone else who could do with any kind of support.
Can I also ask for everyone to keep in touch with friends and neighbours, especially those in quarantine. A phone call, a whatsapp or text message goes a long away for someone in quarantine.
One more thing, don’t forget the power of prayer and therefore can I suggest that we add to our daily prayers psalm 121, a special prayer for ourselves, our family, our community and the world.
I pray that no one should suffer badly from this virus and hopefully we will come out from all this stronger, as individuals and a community.
Rabbi & Rebetzin Rubin
